1. | 'Amma Yatasaa-aloon | Concerning what are they disputing? | عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ |
|
2. | 'Anin-nabaa-il 'azeem | Concerning the Great News, | عَنِ النَّبَإِ الْعَظِيمِ |
|
3. | Allazi hum feehi mukh talifoon | About which they cannot agree. | الَّذِي هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ |
|
4. | Kallaa sa y'alamoon | Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! | كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ |
|
5. | Thumma kallaa sa y'alamoon | Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! | ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ |
|
6. | Alam naj'alil arda mihaa da | Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, | أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا |
|
7. | Wal jibaala au taada | And the mountains as pegs? | وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا |
|
8. | Wa khalaq naakum azwaaja | And (have We not) created you in pairs, | وَخَلَقْنَاكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا |
|
9. | Waja'alna naumakum subata | And made your sleep for rest, | وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا |
|
10. | Waja'alnal laila libasa | And made the night as a covering, | وَجَعَلْنَا اللَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا |
|
11. | Waja'alnan nahara ma 'aasha | And made the day as a means of subsistence? | وَجَعَلْنَا النَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا |
|
12. | Wa banaina fauqakum sab 'an shi daada | And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, | وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا |
|
13. | Waja'alna siraajaw wah haaja | And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? | وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا |
|
14. | Wa anzalna minal m'usiraati maa-an thaj-jaaja | And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, | وَأَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ الْمُعْصِرَاتِ مَاءً ثَجَّاجًا |
|
15. | Linukh rija bihee habbaw wana baata | That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, | لِنُخْرِجَ بِهِ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا |
|
16. | Wa jan naatin alfafa | And gardens of luxurious growth? | وَجَنَّاتٍ أَلْفَافًا |
|
17. | Inna yaumal-fasli kana meeqaata | Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, | إِنَّ يَوْمَ الْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَاتًا |
|
18. | Yauma yun fakhu fis-soori fataa' toona afwaaja | The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; | يَوْمَ يُنْفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا |
|
19. | Wa futiha tis samaa-u fakaanat abwaaba | And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, | وَفُتِحَتِ السَّمَاءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَابًا |
|
20. | Wa suyyi raatil jibaalu fa kaanat saraaba | And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. | وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا |
|
21. | Inna jahan nama kaanat mirsaada | Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, | إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا |
|
22. | Lit taa gheena ma aaba | For the transgressors a place of destination: | لِلطَّاغِينَ مَآبًا |
|
23. | Laa bitheena feehaa ahqaaba | They will dwell therein for ages. | لَابِثِينَ فِيهَا أَحْقَابًا |
|
24. | Laa ya zooqoona feeha bar daw walaa sharaaba | Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, | لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا |
|
25. | Illa hamee maw-wa ghas saaqa | Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, | إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا |
|
26. | Jazaa-aw wi faaqa | A fitting recompense (for them). | جَزَاءً وِفَاقًا |
|
27. | Innahum kaanu laa yarjoona hisaaba | For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), | إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا |
|
28. | Wa kazzabu bi aayaa tina kizzaba | But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. | وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا كِذَّابًا |
|
29. | Wa kulla shai-in ahsai naahu kitaa ba | And all things have We preserved on record. | وَكُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَاهُ كِتَابًا |
|
30. | Fa zooqoo falan-nazee dakum ill-laa azaaba (section 1) | "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." | فَذُوقُوا فَلَنْ نَزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا |
|
31. | Inna lil mutta qeena mafaaza | Verily for the Righteous there will be a fulfilment of (the heart´s) desires; | إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا |
|
32. | Hadaa-iqa wa a'anaa ba | Gardens enclosed, and grapevines; | حَدَائِقَ وَأَعْنَابًا |
|
33. | Wa kaawa 'iba at raaba | And voluptuous women of equal age; | وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا |
|
34. | Wa ka'san di haaqa | And a cup full (to the brim). | وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا |
|
35. | Laa yasma'oona fiha lagh waw walaa kizzaba | No vanity shall they hear therein, nor Untruth:- | لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّابًا |
|
36. | Jazaa-am mir-rabbika ataa-an hisaaba | Recompense from thy Lord, a gift, (amply) sufficient, | جَزَاءً مِنْ رَبِّكَ عَطَاءً حِسَابًا |
|
37. | Rabbis samaa waati wal ardi wa maa baina humar rahmaani laa yam likoona minhu khitaaba | (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between, (Allah) Most Gracious: None shall have power to argue with Him. | رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الرَّحْمَٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا |

38. | Yauma yaqoo mur roohu wal malaa-ikatu saf-fal laa yatakallamoona ill-laa man azina lahur rahmaanu wa qaala sawaaba | The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand forth in ranks, none shall speak except any who is permitted by (Allah) Most Gracious, and He will say what is right. | يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الرُّوحُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا |

39. | Zaalikal yaumul haqqu faman shaa-at ta khaaza ill-laa rabbihi ma-aaba | That Day will be the sure Reality: Therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) return to his Lord! | ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَنْ شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ مَآبًا |

40. | In naa anzar naakum azaaban qareebaiy-yauma yan zurul marr-u maa qaddamat yadaahu wa ya qoolul-kaafiru yaa lai tanee kuntu turaaba (section 2) | Verily, We have warned you of a Penalty near, the Day when man will see (the deeds) which his hands have sent forth, and the Unbeliever will say, "Woe unto me! Would that I were (mere) dust!" | إِنَّا أَنْذَرْنَاكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنْظُرُ الْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ الْكَافِرُ يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنْتُ تُرَابًا |
